One of the most important uses of bentonites is their application as feed additives for livestock for the sorption of mycotoxin contaminants. The main mineral component of bentonite is montmorillonite, which acts as the active ingredient, and its presence has a significant impact on the unique properties of bentonite. Bentonite for feed purposes is designated as BENTONIT 1m558 or 1m558i depending on the properties and/or specific purpose. This material is characterized by an affinity for mycotoxin molecules. Thanks to its unique structure, it binds mycotoxins such as aflatoxins, deoxynivalenol, or zearalenone, while also controlling radionuclide contamination. Another advantage of bentonite is its water absorption capacity, which effectively helps in the treatment of diarrhea in animals.
Why is it good to use bentonites for feed purposes?
- they guarantee safety in feed production,
- they are universal – they can be used in all types of feed and for all animals,
- they retain their detoxifying properties during storage (the product has no expiration date),
- thanks to their stable crystalline structure, they do not cause side effects,
- they stabilize the pH of the digestive system, reducing the risk of stomach and rumen acidosis,
- they resist metabolism and degradation,
- they reduce irritable bowel syndrome,
- they reduce problems related to reproductive system dysfunction in livestock,
- they have a positive effect on proteins,
- they are selective.
Bentonites for feed purposes are intended for all types of animals, and especially for use in feed within pig, cattle, and poultry farming. Feed additives can be used in cases where feed is contaminated with radioactive cesium to control its levels in animals and animal products.
Recommended dosage: 0.5% – 2%. The mixture of the total amount of bentonite from various sources must not exceed the maximum permitted level of 20000 mg/kg of complete feed with a moisture content of 12%.
